PROGRAM
Chris Barker is the Executive Director of Hospice of SLO County.  There are 2 different kinds of Hospice, volunteer and medically supervised.  Chris has 180 volunteers that provide services in the County and was the 1st Hospice in SLO County.  Hospice (Home Health) was a movement in the 1970’s that was generated due to the length (long) of stay in the hospital that often caused other non-related medical issues.

Hospice was brought to the SLO County from a program in Europe coupled with a Home Health program.  Then in the 1980’s it was discovered that patients being at home was better for them and also cheaper.  Hospice of SLO works in tandem with all medical agencies, but on a volunteer basis.  They also work with individuals that don’t have the ability to pay.

Chris shared the importance of talking to your family about how you want things handled, what you want to have happen and what you do not want to happen when you are no longer able to communicate and/take care of yourself.

CLOSING
Carol reminded the club members that there were boxes to mail to the troops for $15.09 each and to please make sure they all were picked up today.

We continued with the new process for the 50/50; the pot is $132, Ken Stilts had the winning ticket and had a chance to draw the white poker chip and win the pot, or draw the black poker chip and have the pot continue to next week – unfortunately Ken was a loser and the pot was a winner.
