PROGRAM
We were treated to two program today, beginning with Madge Morningstar who was from Big Brothers and Big Sisters.  She shared about the program and that the SLO Chapter had both the male and female winners for the state awards.  She explained that the “bigs” spend time with the children they mutually chose, approximately 6 hours each month.  They can do exciting things or just routine things; they just enjoy being out and about.  The program is supported through donations and they are always looking for adults to be matched with a child.  Madge shared there were currently 134 children waiting to be matched.

John Taylor was the next speaker; he is the creator of Project Surf Camp, a program designed to get special needs children in the water.  Project Surf Camp was started in 2008 and in 2014 boasted 300 campers and 450 volunteers participating.  They collaborate with a number of other organizations and also have several agency volunteers.  There are 4 ways to help with Project Surf Camp and they include Fundraising, Volunteering, Marketing and Equipment.  He encouraged everyone to check out their website at projectsurfcamp.com.
