PRESIDENT NICKS TIE COLOR
President Nick covered up much of his tie wearing a tan sport coat (which is maybe why Andrea wasn’t able to make it today – she has an aversion to tan sport coats); from what I could see though, the tie was maroon; he also wore a spiffy tie clip.

PROGRAM
Today we were treated to a wonderful program from Craig Wilson of Transitions Mental Health & Growing Grounds.  Transitions is a non-profit SLO and Santa Barbara company serving the needs of those with severe and/or persistent mental illness (ptsd, bi-polar disorder, depression, schizophrenia, etc.)  Their goal is to eliminate the stigma while promoting recovery and wellness for those afflicted.  They provide day programs in Atascadero, SLO, Arroyo Grande, Lompoc and Santa Maria.  For over 30 years, Transitions has been dedicated to providing work, housing, case management and life skills to support teens and adults with mental illness while offering support, resources and education to their family.

Thru the Transitions program, Growing Grounds is a non-profit wholesale nursery that has been around for over 31 years.  Growing Grounds provides socialization opportunities - it’s a place for people to come socialize with like people; everybody needs to see value in their life, Growing Grounds provides a therapeutic horticultural experience giving workers peace of mind and a sense of accomplishment; and Growing Grounds also instills an expectation for performance as it provides soft job skills that can translate to everyday skills such as common courtesy, being on time and being productive.

The Gardens are open to the public on the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 11-4pm; otherwise they are selling wholesale to many of the stores that we frequent every day.   What a wonderful program and kudos to those with the calling to help people on the road to their own personal recovery.
