PROGRAM
Ron DeCarli and John DeNunzio from the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments provided the program and talked about 98% of their “businesses” had to do with transportation.  SLOCOG is involved with all the cities in the county and representatives from each City sit on their board.   A few of the local projects that SLOCOG has funded include the Elfin Forrest, widening S. Bay Blvd. and Twin Bridges, S. Bay Blvd. bike lanes, the Pacific Coast Bike Route and Scenic Byway Corridor Plan, Morro Bay Roundabout, Class 1 Bike Paths in Morro Bay and the Morro Bay Harbor Walk.  A new project that SLOCOG is working on is the Morro-Cayucos Connector, a path along the west side of the highway.  He also discussed a number pending projects in various states of planning including interchange connections, highway corridor project, community enhancements and transit.

Funding is always an issue and there is much less funding available from the state then in prior years. Funding comes from federal, state and local sources.   Ron shared that he believed that at best status quo funding was probably the best that would occur.  Ron stated that most elected officials have “pledged” no new taxes, which makes it difficult to fund the projects that need to be funded.  SLOCOG has polled for a new 1/2 sales tax and the poll, at this still does not reflect the 67% support needed.

CLOSING
We continued with the new process for the 50/50 pot which now sits at $402; Phillip (thank goodness it wasn’t Matt Franklin again) had the winning ticket and had a chance to draw the white poker chip and win the pot, or draw the black poker chip and have the pot continue to next week – unfortunately Phillip was a loser and the pot was a winner.
