CLUB BUSINESS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Dan Costley let us know that Rotarian Jack Barrett was in ICU due to an accident that he had at home.  Dan shared that no visitors are allowed, but Jack is expected to recover and Dan will keep us updated.

We all signed cards for Jack Barrett who is in ICU following an accident at his home. Fortunately Dan Costley’s wife Linda happened by and called paramedics. He is doing a little better and can now see visitors at French hospital ICU. We also signed a card fo Bing – just to say “hello”.

John Solu, provided a wonderful speech about how important Rotary was to him. Even though he can’t always give 100% attendance, he tries his best and would never do anything to discredit the club.  As a result of the recent lawsuit against the Rotary Club for an auction item involving his home in Turkey, John Solu announced the he has decided to “purchase” the trip so that the Rotary Club he loves will not be out anything. He then presented a check for $3,200 for which he received a standing ovation. Editor’s editor note: If every person or Rotarian gave as the Solu’s DO, just think of the possibilities!

All Rotarians were asked to step outside after the meeting to have their picture taken with the ambulance that the club had purchased for only $3,000 from San Luis Ambulance to be donated to a small city in Africa thanks to efforts by our own Sid.

President Nick announced a Board meeting immediately after the meeting and again the following Wednesday at Carla’s beginning at 7:30 a.m.

PROGRAM

Today we were treated to a wonderful program from Neysa Nancourvis.  Neysa was also joined at the meeting with both her parents.  She is a 27/28 year old woman from Los Osos who spent 2 years in the Peach Corps in Bulgaria.  When Neysa first arrived in Bulgaria she stayed with a family that spoke no English and after the first 3 months, she met with her “manager” and they decided the she would go to a new host family in a different town and work at a Boarding School/Correctional Hall that housed both boys and girls.  Neysa said that most of her time was spent hanging out with the students, talking and communicating with them as most of them were from broken homes or have experienced difficult situations. She also worked with the director of the Boarding School as well as put on some special events.  She said that she went over as a vegetarian and running advocate and quickly realized that while she could continue her running ways, she would have to eat meat in order to thrive over the winter.  Neysa reported that the Bulgarians celebrate a lot of holidays.  She also said that she was amazed how welcoming they are for others to come into their homes and that she hoped she could take some of that back with her to the U.S.

CLOSING

After Janne won the 50/50-again, President Nick closed the meeting.
