PROGRAM
Larry Newland was our program, speaking about the Central Coast Maritime Museum Association.  Seneca provided a brief background of Larry and we found out that he is super active, scuba dives and has a 21 year old daughter at UC Davis.

Larry shared that the goal of the Association was to provide an easily accessible education venue for maritime history, science and technology.  Larry indicated there have been some very positive movements for the Maritime Museum, beginning with the City getting control of the large overflow parking lot – a project headed up by former City Attorney Rob Schultz and Mayors Janice Peters and Bill Yates.  Currently there is a concrete pad that will be the first Museum that is off the grid and will be open all weekend beginning sometime next year.

Larry talked about some of the donations they have received as well as some of the educational programs including the Lady Washington, Hawaiian Chieftain and the Endeavour visits.   He also stated that Morro Bay will be hosting the Galleon San Salvador in October 2016.  Larry also talked about the US Avalon – the submarine that is located on the waterfront in Morro Bay.

Larry shared the goals of the Association and the ways that Rotarians could help such as being a Board member, helping with tours, helping with maintenance.  Contact Larry at ccmma@morrobaymaritime.org.
